Stellenbosch indie rockers, Aflos, will be hitting the Daisy Jones Bar stage this October. Having only launched their new single, “Earphones”, recently, they will now be recording their first ever live album.

This local band consists of frontman Josh Swanepoel (rhythm guitar and vocals),  Chris Burgess (drums), Ben Hatch (lead guitar), Henko Uys (bass) and Jess Meissner (bass).

“I have too many [creative influences] to choose from. I don’t really think of anything, I just try to mimic whatever I am listening to at the time. I don’t really think too much about that stuff,” says Swanepoel when asked about the inspiration behind their creative process.

The band, made up of mostly music students, released their first EP last year. The six-track Out on a Bender boasts crowd favourites like “Wasting Time” and “Outside, Inside”. The band plans to record their live album on 23 October at the Daisy Jones Bar at Orgasmic Music Gallery (OMG). Speaking to Die Matie about their latest single, Meissner calls “Earphones” a jol song.

“Like [when] you’re walking down the street and you’re dancing and you don’t care what people think about you. It’s about walking the streets of Stellenbosch, especially Victoria [Street],” says Meissner about the latest track.

The band will be performing live at the Daisy Jones Bar on Saturday 23 October, with tickets going from R80 on Quicket. Other acts performing include Hey Imagine and Vanilla Colts. The event forms part of the Daisy Jones Bar October Halloween nights with the theme of the evening being “Famous Dead People” and the best dressed winning a prize.

Aflos can be found on Spotify and Apple Music, as well as their official Instagram page @aflosofficial.
