Die Heuwels Fantasties (DHF) will launch their new brand of wine at their first live show since lockdown at Nooitgedacht Estate on Sunday 18 April. The limited-edition Beloofde Land Chenin Blanc, exclusively available at Sunday’s show, was produced in collaboration with master-winemakers Gavin Bruwer; Bruwer Raats (B Vintners Wine) and Danie Carinus (Carinus Family Vineyards). The family picnic-style concert marks the start of Die Heuwels Fantasties’s new enterprise Die Heuwels Fantasties Family Wines.
The band has released three albums since the stage last saw them a year ago. Herverbeel, 2021 and the latter’s 2021:Live in Lockdown counterpart boasts multiple charting hits between them. They include “Mejuffrou Sonneblom”, “Hardloop Weg” and the smooth-synth song scoring their most recent music video “Plekkie In Die Son” featuring Early B, filmed and directed by Damiane van Reenen.
Erik Vermeulen, a Stellenbosch University (SU) student, features in Die Heuwels Fantasties’s “Plekkie In Die Son” music video – a “melancholic dance party” alongside local actress and photographer, Greteli Fincham. “We are big fans, so it was great to hear that they wanted us to be in the music video,” said Vermeulen.
Frits Visser and Marguerite van Eeden were part of the behind the scenes of the “Plekkie In Die Son” video shot at Kraalbaai Luxury House Boats. “I have listened to them since I was little. They have always been a favourite of mine,” said Vermeulen. “Everyone can get something that they like in their songs. If I’m being honest, I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who doesn’t like their music.”
Die Heuwels Fantasties’s music and live performances have almost become synonymous with student life. Catch them and new artist, Corné Pretorius, at Nooitgedacht Estate on Sunday 18 April.
