Residence Rundown The Apple of their heroes’ eyes: An album review Reforest Fest: A fezzie for the trees The Fallen Boer

BY KRISTHOFF KRIGE

Nancy, Sheila and Gayle

If these stunning drag queens don’t already tickle your fancy, clock their Mac Cosmetics sponsorship, honey. With a smart slang infused title and fabulously endearing description, this production is sure to make you feel your full flamboyant fantasy, and then some.

Take a rare glance into the vernacular and vulnerabilities of the pillars of queer culture as they prance in and get out of their high heels. The dramatic trio takes us on a tour between contemporary and historic Cape Town drag scenes and beyond, with the soft touch of humanity (and concealer).

Plant:

A series of interdisciplinary exhibitions where theatre meets science, visual art meets agriculture and the audience meets something fresh.

Check their Instagram for more logistical details on the following – with cool QR codes.

Words Beneath Bridges tells stories about colonial land, wine and student culture from a queer perspective, through an intersection between visual and performative art. I’ll be there.

Reclaim The Pantry is an artistic demonstration and fermentation workshop which aims to educate the audience on sustainable horticulture and the powers at play in the food industry.

Grense Sonder Mense is ’n visuele kuns-installasie deur Neil le Roux.

Moffie

What did this title just call me? Anyway, the internationally acclaimed feature film brought to us by the auteur of Beauty (Skoonheid), is coming to our doorstep only a day after its South African cinematic premiere!

Everyone, old and young, needs to see this film – even if you’re not a… fan of drama. Virtually anyone can relate to the trauma that bullies and wars leave in their wake.

A ticket to the screening on the 14th of March at 13:00 in Rhenish includes a panel discussion with Oliver Hermanus himself.

The venue has been meticulously equipped for a mesmerizing audio-visual experience. If you have yet to see the striking trailer, open YouTube right now, if you can even bear to type the title.

Wat/Waiting

Dance is definitely not dead. Experience emotionally loaded narratives beautifully portrayed through the language of contemporary dance. As part of the festival’s brand-new dance category, this esteemed Baxter show is not to be missed.

The program promises a combination of neo-classical and minimalistic electronic music to compliment the dexterity and tenderness of the choreography.

Critically acclaimed as an important new voice in theatre, this massively successful company is sure to sweep you away through time and space. How refreshing.

Kristhoff Krige is a BA(Law) graduate and currently in his first year of PostGrad LLB.
He continues to be a (somewhat overzealous) student leader and theatre lover.
