The new residence head of Dagbreek wants to make Dagbreek a place where everyone feels at home.

Grant Leukes, the previous assistant residence head of Metanoia, has replaced dr Johannes Albertus de Wet Strauss as the new residence head. Strauss served as residence head from 1996 to 2017.

Leukes said he is excited to work with Dagbreek’s new house committee. “At this point, I support Gavin van der Berg [Dagbreek’s prim for the 2017-2018 term] and his team and their vision for the house: to keep Dagbreek Dagbreek,” he said.

Leukes continued that if he could add to the house’s inclusivity, “that would be wonderful.”

He says he prefers a more personal approach when it comes to student care and development.

“I enjoy working with students on a one-on-one basis. I like talking to students; I like seeing how they grow from first year to their final year and how their leadership skills develop. That’s my passion and the reason why I do this. I enjoy supporting and assisting students,” Leukes said.

Apart from serving as assistant residence head of Metanoia, Leukes also headed Botmans Hoogte for two years. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Stellenbosch University.
